Matthew Schaefer, a former New York Islanders player, has been a standout player for the team since his rookie season. Despite setting numerous rookie records, Schaefer's impact on the team extended beyond his impressive performance. He set a record for 23 goals and 59 points, and is a strong contender for the Calder Trophy. Despite the team's season being judged a failure due to their losses, he has been instrumental in turning the team around. He also developed a close relationship with his former teammates, Mathieu Darche and his wife Sydney Esiason Martin. Despite this, it is expected that Schaefer will eventually be the Islanders' captain.
