However, they believe there is a middle-ground where AI can both benefit humanity and create a dystopia. Samuel Hammond, an artificial intelligence researcher at the Foundation for American Innovation, acknowledged the dual nature of AI and its dual nature: it will enable hackers to hack software but also create new viruses. He also noted that advanced AI first will have major national security implications, allowing the U.S. to patch up and harden its systems before other countries reach the same capabilities.
