Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis revealed that he initially considered including language addressing a controversial social media post from President Donald Trump, which depicted former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys. Ellis did not include this language in the final resolution, but instead pushed to remove a portion of the resolution that called for County Judge Lina Hidalgo's resignation. The controversial post was shared on Truth Social and featured politicians such as Hillary Clinton, Gavin Newsom, and Whoopi Goldberg depicted in unflattering ways. After backlash, President Trump refused to apologize and confirmed that his team didn't know the Obamas were depicted in that manner.
