Boeing CEO: Trump is key to closing major plane order from Chinese airlines

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg testified before a Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee hearing about Boeing's commitment to addressing safety concerns in the wake of a January 2024 purchase of purchase licenses from China. Despite threats from President Donald Trump to cut off access to spare engine parts in his ongoing trade dispute with China, Boeing has been in talks for a potential deal that could include 500 737 MAX jets, plus dozens of widebody jets. The company plans to increase 737 production from 42 jets a month at its Renton, Washington, plant to 47 per month by the end of the year and open a new production line, dubbed the North Line, in Everett, Washington.
