Mother of Queens man shot by police during mental health crisis tearfully begs Queens DA to drop charges: ‘Our lives are changed forever’

Jabez Chakraborty, a 22-year-old Queens man, was shot multiple times by police during a mental health crisis on Jan. 25 after his family dialed 911 for help. The incident was caught on police body-worn camera and appeared to show cops retreating into the home’s vestibule while demanding that he drop the weapon. As of March 11, Chakraboury is still bed-bound in the hospital and recovering from his injuries. His mother, Juli Chakrabory, has pleaded for Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz to drop the charges against him. The Police Benevolent Association, a union representing 21,000 cops, also commented on the controversy surrounding the case.
