Pittsburgh's Market Square has introduced a temporary safety policy and a new roller-skating rink as part of efforts to enhance downtown safety and create a family-friendly environment. The policy, which began on April 30, requires individuals under 18 to be accompanied by someone over the age of 18 in Market Square from Thursday to Sunday, between 3 p.m. and midnight. The new rink is expected to attract more young people to the area. Private security and additional Pittsburgh police officers have been placed at six intersections surrounding the square. Businesses have reported noticeable improvements since the policy was implemented. The temporary policy is tepid, with no set time frame frame, but officials plan to continue monitoring its effectiveness.
