Riley Jacob Hagar, a 28-year-old man from Cathedral City, is charged with second-degree murder for the death of Travis O'Brien, who died from fentanyl poisoning on New Year's Day 2022. The prosecution claims that O'Bryry wouldn't have had access to the pills that killed him without Hagar's direct assistance. Hagar could also be convicted of involuntary manslaughter. His attorney, Ryan Markson, argues that his client can't be blamed for O'Brian's death because he didn't put the pills in his mouth. Since February 2021, prosecutors have charged over three dozen people in connection with fentanyl poisonings.
