A 13-year-old boy from Berlin discovered an ancient Greek coin from Troy in a field in Berlin, marking the first time such an object has been found in the city. The find sparked research into its provenance, with the coin being brought along on a school trip to the PETRI Museum. The coin was minted in Troy (present-day northwestern Turkey) between 281 and 261 B.C.E. However, it remains a mystery how it made its way to Berlin 2,300 years ago. Archaeologists found ceramics, a double-lobed bronze button, and cremated human remains at the site, which could be tied to a Bronze Age or Early Iron Age cemetery. The bronze in the coin wouldn't have held much economic value in its day, but experts believe its symbolic burial in a grave would have represented something symbolic.
