Republican senator calls for James Boasberg’s impeachment

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has called for the impeachment of James Boasberg, the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. This comes after a federal appeals court halted a contempt investigation into Trump administration officials. Schmitt accused Boasburg of abusing his authority by finding officials in criminal contempt for violating his order to stop deportation flights to El Salvador. Despite this, there is little chance any effort to remove Boasenberg from the bench would reach the 67 votes needed in the Senate.
