Local aerospace engineers are excited about the upcoming launch of NASA's Artemis II mission, which will take three American astronauts and one Canadian astronaut beyond Earth’s orbit to the moon and back. The mission will be the farthest distance from Earth that a human has flown in space. Among the engineers working at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans East, Evan Sibley, who works as a quality engineer for Boeing, is one of 1,000 Boeing employees working at Michoud. He plans to continue his work for the remaining three scheduled Artemis missions. Nunez Community College's aerospace manufacturing program, which launched in 2018, has seen 300 students graduate and find work among major manufacturing companies.
