OG&E and Google have agreed to power three new Google data centers in Oklahoma, with the tech giant committing to paying 100% of the grid connection costs and guaranteed payments regardless of their actual energy consumption. The utility described the agreement as a "landmark contract" that offers transparency into how data center projects are financed in the U.S. power grid. However, concerns remain about the centers' large demand for water to cool servers and whether the economic benefits outweigh environmental costs. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission will review the agreement over the coming weeks and will review any adverse customer impacts.
