New research from the University of Hawaii at Manoa has revealed that the Madden-Julian Oscillation (Moral System) may be a significant driver of increased rainfall across Hawaii. This could explain the unusually heavy rain experienced in recent months. The study also found that rainfall consistently responds to different phases of the MJO. The findings could help improve weather forecasting up to three months in advance.
