Tesla to buy $4.3 billion of LG Energy battery cells from disbanded GM plant

Tesla is partnering with South Korea's LG Energy Solution to purchase $4.3 billion worth of battery cells for energy storage systems in Lansing, Michigan. The deal was announced during an Indo-Pacific Energy Security Summit in Japan. While Tesla still makes most of its revenue from electric vehicles, it is investing in its rapidly growing energy business. The company's energy segment increased 27% to $12.8 billion last year, accounting for 13% of total revenue. However, the company expects "very high growth" for its energy business, with CFO Vaibhav Taneja cautioning of low-cost competition and the cost of tariffs.
