Hyundai Translead, a California-based subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, is set to create 2,500 full-time jobs at two shuttered industrial plants in Will County, Illinois. The company, backed by an initial investment of $450 million, plans to repurpose the existing facilities and begin operations by 2027. The move is expected to revitalize both Lion Electric bus facility in Channahon and the former Caterpillar plant in Joliet. The new facilities will increase production for Hyundai Translead and improve logistics for its dealer network. The state's Economic Development for a Growing Economy program offers annual corporate tax credits to businesses that create jobs, investment, and training programs in Illinois.
