A judge has delayed the federal trial of Luigi Mangione, the 27-year-old man accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Robert Thompson, by postponing it until January due to Mangione's concurrent New York state murder trial. The federal trial is set to begin with jury selection on Oct. 5 and will be followed by opening statements on either Oct. 26 or Nov. 2. Mangione also faces two counts of stalking and nine felony charges related to criminal possession of a weapon in the state case. The judge ruled that the murder charge can only be used in tandem with a "crime of violence" and ruled that Mangione’s alleged stalking of Thompson did not meet this standard, effectively preventing prosecutors from seeking the death penalty.
