The United States 10th Circuit Court of Appeals has decided to proceed with a lawsuit against former Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby regarding the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Terrence Crutcher. The incident occurred in September 2016 when police responded to a vehicle blocking all lanes of traffic and encountered Crutchers with his SUV. Crutchets refused to comply with officers' orders to raise his hands and then shot him dead. Shelby was found not guilty of manslaughter in the criminal case but was sued by the Crutches' estate, but a judge dismissed the lawsuit claiming she was protected by qualified immunity.
