Tokyo psychiatrist Jun Izawa, director of Tokyo Clinic, has been arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police for allegedly sexually assaulting a female patient last August. The arrest is not the first time for Izawa; he has a history of domestic violence, including assault on his then girlfriend in 2022. During his trial proceedings, witnesses described a string of horrific domestic violence incidents. The victim testified that she began dating Izawa in 2021 after initially being his patient and began experiencing domestic violence when they began living together. The physical abuse escalated when Izawa forced her to pick up trash on the street near his car wearing only her underwear, causing her to slit her wrists and injure her nerves. Despite these incidents, Izawa denied the charges, dismissing the victim's claims as “a woman's delusion” and accused the prosecution of lying on the stand. He was also known for freely dispensing prescription pills and for abusing vulnerable young women.
