Supreme Court Takes Up Trump Bid to Curb Temporary Protections for Immigrants

The Supreme Court will hear the Trump administration's appeal to end temporary protected status for certain immigrants, including those from Syria and Haiti. Immigration groups argue that people cannot return to these countries due to unsafe conditions. The Trump Justice Department argues that the Department of Homeland Security has sole power to end these protections. The administration had appealed lower court rulings that prevented the immediate termination of protected status. If successful, this would allow for the deportation of these immigrants. The Supreme Court has previously ruled against ending temporary protection status for about 600,000 Venezuelans.
