Kat Abughazaleh, a 26-year-old former social media influencer and former Media Matters employee, may win a major upset in a crowded Democratic primary in Illinois' Ninth district due to her strong backing by men and lack of support from women. The poll, conducted by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling (PPP) and commissioned by the Evanston RoundTable, showed that while Abughzaleh is currently in second place among 14 Democrats, she trails Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss by only four percentage points. If she wins her March 17 primary, she would be the youngest woman elected to Congress. The winner of the March 17 Democratic primary is likely to win the November general election to succeed retiring Democratic Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky.
