The United Nations human rights office has warned that some Israeli strikes in Lebanon may amount to war crimes. The strikes on residential buildings, displaced people, and healthcare workers in Lebanon have raised concerns under international law and may lead to forced displacement. The Israeli military was not immediately available for comment. Israel's military has claimed it is targeting Hezbollah infrastructure and a ground operation launched in Lebanon as a defensive effort to protect northern Israel from Hezbollah attacks. The U.N.'s human rights co-ordinator in Lebanon, Imran Riza, said that civilians are paying a heavy price and that hundreds of thousands of people have left their homes rapidly.
