Report: Meta Planning to Lay Off 16,000 Employees In AI-Driven Move to Cut Costs

The parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, Meta, is reportedly planning to cut around 20% of its staff in a bid to offset the costs of its investments in AI. The news of the layoffs, which could occur as soon as this week, has led to a 2% increase in Meta's stock price. The move is seen as another example of companies being rewarded for cutting jobs in the name of AI, with Elon Musk reportedly ordering sweeping layoffs at xAI, which was folded into SpaceX last year.
