Uber has added a feature in its app to allow both women riders and drivers across the U.S. to be matched with other women for trips, expanding a pilot program aimed at addressing safety concerns. The feature, named "Women Drivers," allows passengers to request a female driver and can also reserve a trip with a woman in advance. This move comes despite an ongoing class action lawsuit by Uber drivers alleging that it discriminates against men. The lawsuit also argues that the feature reinforces the gender stereotype that men are more dangerous than women. Both Uber and Lyft have faced thousands of reports of sexual assaults over the years, with a federal jury finding Uber legally responsible for a 2023 case of sexual assault.
