Two migrants die in Channel crossing attempt

Two migrants died and six others were rescued after they got into difficulties boarding a small boat near Calais. The incident occurred at around 09:30 local time. The UK and France are in talks to renew a deal to prevent small boats from attempting to cross the Channel. The agreement had been set to expire, but has been extended by two months. The government claims that the deal has prevented 42,000 illegal migrants from reaching the UK, although the number of people making the journey has increased.
