NASA has used advanced imaging techniques to examine samples from an asteroid, Bennu, which they have collected from the OSIRIS-REx probe. The study could help scientists better predict the structures of asteroids based on their thermal properties without needing to collect physical samples. The discovery could help explain why Bennu appears to have low thermal inertia, which causes its surface to heat up and cool down rapidly as it rotates in and out of sunlight.
