NASA's Artemis 2 astronauts have named a lunar 'bright spot' after the late wife of their mission commander, Reid Wiseman, who died of cancer in 2020. The previous record was held by the previous spacecraft, which traveled 248,655 miles (400,171 kilometers) from Earth at the end of its mission. The crew members requested to name a crater near the Glushko crater on the moon after their late wife. The closest approach to the moon will take place later on Monday, bringing the crew within about 4,000 miles of the lunar surface.
