NASA’s Artemis III Moon Rocket Hardware Progressing
Published on April 28, 2026.
NASA is preparing for the Artemis III mission, following a successful Artemis II test flight at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The core stage of the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket is being assembled at the agency's Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at NASA Kennedy on April 28. This is the first time core stage assembly operations are taking place at Kennedy. The first shipment of booster motor segments for the flight arrived at Kennedy on March 13 and are being processed inside Kennedy’s Rotation, Processing and Surge Facility. Major functional testing is ongoing for Artemis III, with the Artemis II Orion spacecraft returning for post-flight analysis. The mission will launch astronauts to Earth's orbit on top of SLS to test docking capabilities between Orion and commercial spacecraft needed for future missions.
