Strong winds knock over trees, debris in Belle Chasse

Strong storms moved through Plaquemines Parish around 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon, causing heavy rain and powerful winds to knock over tree limbs, roof shingles, parts of awnings, and other debris across neighborhoods. No injuries were reported. Plaquemeines Parish Fire Dept. Superintendent Jonathan Butcher and other firefighters were on Tau Street, where a backyard oak tree fell on Brandie Verrett's home, causing holes in the roof. The team quickly helped Verrett family clear large limbs and tarp parts of the roof, which Verrett said was emotional seeing first responders help quickly.
