A recall election is underway in the City of Avenal amid a dispute between the city and Kings County. The election, which targets Mayor Alvaro Preciado, City Councilmembers Leticia Gamez, David Reynosa and Pablo Hernandez, was organized by Dalilah Barajas, who expressed concerns about city leadership. A judge denied a city's attempt to halt the election last week, allowing it to proceed. The recall election could cost between $51,000 and $66,000. City Manager Antony Lopez plans to appeal the court's decision, stating there should have been more communication before the process began. The Kings County responded by saying it is committed to protecting the integrity of the election process and ensuring it is conducted lawfully and fairly.
