Jurors in a California civil trial have found that actor-comedian Bill Cosby is liable for drugging and sexually assaulting a waitress in 1972. The woman, Donna Motsinger, was awarded $59.25 million after a trial took nearly two weeks and three days of deliberations. The jury also found that Cosby owed Motsingers $40 million in punitive damages. The $19.25M total included compensation for mental suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, inconvenience, grief, anxiety, humiliation, and emotional distress. Cosby's attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, plans to appeal the verdict and the monetary award. The decision comes nearly five years after Cosby was released from a Pennsylvania prison when a criminal conviction was overturned.
