The director of V for Vendetta, James McTeigue, has spoken about the increasing relevance of the film, which was released 20 years ago. The adaptation of Alan Moore and David Lloyd's graphic novel, starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving, was released in 2006 and grossed about $135 million against a production budget of around $50 million. Despite being a moderate success, the film was viewed as a more relevant and scary work of cinema.
