Ayr United has appointed John Rankin as its interim manager for the rest of the season, replacing Scott Brown who left by mutual consent. Rankin will be assisted by former Hamilton Academical boss, Jamie Murphy, Tommy Tait and Dave Timmins. The team currently sits eighth in the Scottish Championship, seven points above the relegation play-off place and eight points below the bottom of the standings.
