Senate Banking chair says Warsh could be Fed chair in 'next few weeks'

The Senate Banking Committee plans to hold a confirmation hearing for Kevin Warsh, its chairman, in the next few weeks. This comes despite Sen. Thom Tillis, R-North Carolina, threatening to stall any confirmations to the Federal Reserve until the Department of Justice concludes its investigation into Jerome Powell. Warsh's financial disclosures reveal he is far wealthier than previous Fed chairs, with assets valued over $100 million and additional wealth tied to his wife, Jane Lauder. If confirmed, Warsh would return as Fed chair at a time when President Donald Trump has pressured the Federal Open Market Committee to lower interest rates and clashed with Powell over monetary policy.
