EU court strengthens air passenger rights in the event of delays

The European Union's second highest court has ruled that airlines cannot refuse compensation for a delayed flight, unless the delay was caused by an "extraordinary circumstance" at the airline. This ruling was prompted by a complaint by two passengers who demanded €400 in compensation after their flight from Dusseldorf, Germany to Varna, Bulgaria was delayed for over three hours. The case was referred to the EU court for interpretation of European regulations.
