Louisiana lawmakers are proposing a proposal to offer businesses tax incentives to boost starting salaries for college graduates. The proposal, which Sen. Mike Fesi calls the state's "brain drain," includes allowing employers to offer 20% more pay to graduates for the first five years. Dr. Kim Hunter Reed, commissioner of higher education, would serve on the task force if it receives governor's approval. The task force would include lawmakers, business leaders, and department heads. A report to the legislature is expected by April 2027.
