Hoxworth Blood Centers in Ohio has warned that the holiday season can strain the local blood supply, even as hospitals' needs remain constant. The organization says up to 400 donors a day are needed at its neighborhood centers across Ohio to meet hospital demand. The need can increase during high-travel periods, with additional demand tied to traffic accidents, tragic accidents on airport runways and potential cancellations of donor appointments. Donors who give before the end of March will receive a free spring "Peep" T-shirt.
