Akron partnership to erase medical debt for 17,000 residents

The city of Akron is partnering with national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt to eliminate approximately $20 million in medical debt for 17,000 city residents. The debt was purchased from healthcare providers and collection agencies. The relief will be sent out to residents in the next two weeks. The nonprofit can only eliminate qualifying medical debts from requests by partners like hospitals or tax collectors.
