A blast of Arctic air is causing a bitterly cold St. Patrick's Day across Southeast Michigan, with wind chills dropping into the single digits and teens. The cold is being driven by persistent northwest winds pulling in frigid air across the Great Lakes, keeping afternoon temperatures stuck in the 20s despite mid-March sunshine. Lake-effect snow showers and flurries are also expected throughout the day, but little accumulation is expected. The weather is expected to moderate over the next few days, with temperatures expected to reach the upper 50s by the weekend. This comes during Severe Weather Awareness Week in Michigan, a reminder of the state's wide range of weather extremes.
