Omired urban farm in North Omaha, Nebraska, is delaying planting due to a freeze warning, as urban farmers prepare to protect their crops. The nonprofit urban farm program is caring for 37 varieties of plants in its greenhouse and preparing for them to be transplanted to the farm to grow into over 16,000 pounds of fresh food for area food pantries. The freeze warning has temporarily halted planting efforts at City Sprouts, which is also monitoring the weather. Co-manager Habib Nikzad said that the freeze warning halted efforts as they cultivated around 11,500 seedlings and some are ready to transplant to the field.
