Microsoft has supported the legal battle between Anthropic and the Department of Energy, stating that the Pentagon has labelled the company a "supply chain risk" and ordered federal agencies to stop using its technology. In a court brief, Microsoft urged a federal judge to temporarily block the designation, arguing that it could disrupt existing AI systems used by the military and affect the broader technology sector. The company also warned that U.S. warfighters could be hampered if forced to alter AI products and contracts built around Anthropic's models.
