The US has launched its Low-cost Unmanned Combat Attack System (LUCAS), an improved version of the Iranian Shahed, a low-cost yet powerful weapon system. The LUCAS drones were used in combat for the first time during Operation Epic Fury, indicating a shift in the Pentagon's capabilities towards a new era of low cost, high-volume defense. These drones, known as “kamikaze drones” formed the chief weapon of a new drone unit named Task Force Scorpion Strike. The drone was developed by Arizona-based manufacturer SpektreWorks and can be fitted with advanced satellite communications systems. It also features top-notch American software engineering and is capable of making it cheaper than America’s Tomahawk Land Rover.
