Fremont police have issued a warning to Bay Area residents about the deadly rabies virus after a dead bat was discovered at a home in Fremont's Glenmoor neighborhood. Alameda County workers responded to the home and confirmed the animal had the virus on April 1. Police advised people and pets to avoid contact with bats and other animals that can carry rabies, including skunks, foxes, coyotes and raccoons. Unvaccinated dogs and cats are considered at a high risk of contracting and potentially spreading the virus. Police also advised residents to keep dogs confined to their home property, report animal bites of people, and avoid feeding or handling wildlife.
