The University of Arizona’s Global Campus was hit by a cyberattack, which affected thousands of students. The threat came from a hacking group named ShinyHunters, known for stealing and selling data. The group claims to have obtained 275 million records, making it the largest data breach in academia. The stolen data includes names, email addresses, student ID numbers, and messages between students and faculty. As of Friday afternoon, Instructure and Canvas, the system is fully operational and has not disclosed what private information was stolen. The Tucson Unified School District also experienced the cyberattack but no personal data was compromised.
