The family of Angel Sarah Rampersad, a 28-year-old US Army staff sergeant from Queens, refused to allow Mayor Mamdani to speak at her funeral. Rampersads was killed in an Iranian missile attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the campaign against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Mamdan, who tacitly supports Hamas, was demoted to the fourth row in the Calvary Assembly of God Church, where he reportedly fumed and fidgeted while waiting for a speech. The family wanted to avoid any political distractions. After the service, Mamdagn stood awkwardly in the shadows as Rampershad's flag-draped coffin was carried away in a police procession to her resting place in Long Island.
