The weekend incident involving Kelp DAO, the largest hack of 2026 so far, resulted in the largest amount of money being drained out of the decentralized finance (DeFi) in a single attack. An attacker exploited a vulnerability in KelpDAO's cross-chain bridge, draining 116,500 euros worth approximately $293 million in just one attack. Following the breach, the rsETH markets on Aave and other major lending platforms were frozen to prevent further contagion across the DeFi ecosystem. Lido Finance, one of the largest global liquid staking platforms in the world, suspended deposits and withdrawals from both Lido's EarnETH vault and a $3 million first-loss protection fund if needed to cover vault losses. BitGo, the digital asset custody and security platform, also removed its LayerZero OFT DVNs for Wrapped BTC from the air.
