Fears are growing that Israel could replicate its successful military offensive in Lebanon, following its yearslong, deadly offensive in Gaza. Satellite imagery has captured widespread destruction in the country's south, with over 1 million people displaced and hundreds of thousands of people living in their homes indefinitely. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced this week that Israel would establish a “security zone” in southern Lebanon and take control of key river crossings. This has led to a spiraling humanitarian situation, with aid workers warning of a rising death toll and destruction of residential areas. The Israel Defense Forces has also expanded its military action in the south, announcing more troops will join its ground invasion with the aim of expanding its "security zone" there. The UN Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that the "Gaza model" must not be replicated in Lebanon.
