A new study from Japan has found that increasing milk intake could reduce stroke risk by up to 7% and potentially decrease Japan's national healthcare burden costs by between 5-8.5%. The study suggests that the minerals found in milk, particularly calcium, magnesium and potassium, offer strong cardiovascular protection. While the US consumes more milk than Japan, it is not yet clear how effective this strategy could be. The study's authors based their model off Japan's recommended serving of 180 grams per day. However, there is no consistent scientific link between dairy consumption and stroke risk.
