The Elyria City Council Finance Committee has approved the next phase of a planned "road diet" project on Oberlin Road, paving the road from Middle Avenue to the city’s corporation limits. The project, largely funded by outside sources, includes removing the traffic light, restriping the road, adding a two-way left turn lane in the center, and adding bike lanes. The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency will cover 80% of the cost, with the total project estimated at about $812,000. The redesigned layout will include stop signs for cross traffic and remain a through route within city limits.
