Charlie Parker Month kicks off with celebration of Kansas City's jazz legacy

KC Jazz Alive has begun its monthlong celebration of hometown legend Charlie Parker, celebrating his legacy with a Jazzy Opening Brunch at The Phoenix in downtown Kansas City, marking what would have been Parker's 106th birthday on Aug. 29. The celebration will continue throughout August with performances, walking history tours, and other events highlighting Parker's influence on jazz and Kansas City's musical heritage. The event's organizers aim to keep the spirit of jazz alive and expose all generations to this great music form. Information about upcoming events is available through KC Jazz Alive.
