KC Jazz Alive has begun its monthlong celebration of hometown legend Charlie Parker, celebrating his legacy with a Jazzy Opening Brunch at The Phoenix in downtown Kansas City, marking what would have been Parker's 106th birthday on Aug. 29. The celebration will continue throughout August with performances, walking history tours, and other events highlighting Parker's influence on jazz and Kansas City's musical heritage.
