Unpaid TSA workers face 'exhausting anxiety' during shutdown

The ongoing partial government shutdown means 61,000 unpaid TSA workers are on duty across the country. This has led to longer lines at airports and more missed flights due to illness or delayed screening. Angela Grana, the Colorado-based regional vice president of the union representing TSA workers, said that many agents are still digging out from partial paychecks they received in February during the previous shutdown. She also revealed that some workers have been living off maxed-out credit cards or borrowed money from friends and family. The TSA is supposed to be funded by fees, but Congress has halted funding during a partisan dispute over whether ICE agents should be barred from wearing masks during immigration enforcement.
