Mexico was eliminated from the World Baseball Classic after losing to Team USA in the group-stage finale, where it had a chance to avenge its previous loss. However, Italy defeated Mexico 9-1, with Vinnie Pasquantino scoring three home runs, a WBC single-game record, and six Italian players outplayed Mexico's bats. This loss ended Mexico's chances of competing in the 2028 Olympics as only the United States is considered a host nation for baseball. This defeat marks the third consecutive defeat for Mexico in the WBC for the past four tournaments.
